SLOCMA Member Services
Membership Directory One copy of the annual SLOCMA pictorial directory is provided free of charge to all members. The directory is a very useful communications forum for members and non-members alike. The directory assists the membership as well as other health care providers in referring patients to SLOCMA member physicians. The directory is available for purchase at the following rate: $50.00 each; additional copies for members and advertisers: $25.00 each.
Membership Meetings Through general membership meetings – usually four a year – SLOCMA provides guest speakers from fields of medicine, economics, and government. Spouses, guests and non-members are invited to attend these meetings for the cost of dinner only.
Committees SLOCMA has several committees for your participation, as well as linkages to the community through representation on community organizations. We urge you to become involved in the association by participating in committee activities.
Communications and Public Relations SLOCMA works to communicate a positive message about medicine to the public and service the media as an informed resource.
Society Sponsored Professional Liability Insurance SLOCMA sponsors the insurance program offered by NORCAL for its professional liability coverage. Annually, NORCAL sponsors a Town Hall for professional education in conjunction with the medical association.
Government Relations SLOCMA maintains a good working relationship with local government at many levels, state, county and city. The opinion of SLOCMA and its membership is often sought, and we are in many instances given representation opportunities on boards, task forces, and committees.
In addition, SLOCMA participates with CMA to keep a close watch on legislative and regulatory activities to ensure that medicine’s concerns are communicated to government. Through the efforts of the CMA Government Relations office in Sacramento, an excellent record has been maintained for securing passage on needed legislation and stopping bills that would be harmful to medicine.
California Medical Association Legislative Day SLOCMA officers and staff participate in the annual trip to Sacramento each spring to meet our legislators and discuss legislative issues which affect health care.
Physician Well-Being SLOCMA through CMA offers confidential help to physicians whose ability to practice is impaired due to alcohol, substance abuse, or emotional and physical infirmities.
Medical Alliance Spouses and/or physician friends are invited to join and participate in the SLOCMA Alliance. The Alliance has many ongoing projects benefiting the community.
Medical and Legal Questions Through SLOCMA staff and the CMA legal counsel; the association is a resource to member physicians for medical and legal opinions with regard to matters affecting their practice.
Historical Medicine SLOCMA, working with its retired physicians, is compiling a series of historical writings on San Luis Obispo County physicians. Anyone wishing to contribute stories, writings, or any other information is encouraged to do so by submitting it to the SLOCMA office at P.O. Box 4826, San Luis Obispo, CA 93403.
